Lately i reorganized a bit of my home media setup and it works great. An this blogpost i want to share it a bit :3
So the center of it is an old 1080p sony tv that i got for shipping costs. It is safe if the virus attacking it is from 2015, so it isn’t connected to the Internet. It’s also quite slow. like idk what hardware they built into it but i feel like a pi 3b is quicker. At least it starts directly to the last active output so i don’t have to interact with the smart TV side of this. When it comes to ports it offers two SCART ports (unused), some rca in, four hdmi and 3.5mm audio out.
For speakes i have some studio speakers + sub, and i like the sound of them. they are connected to an aliexpress audio switch, the TV and a PI 3b for network audio.
The brain of all of this, is some used ebay thin client with libre elec. it gets controlled with a flirc usb thingy and some ir remote that does do a bit of light when u lift it.
Connected to the RCA is my karaoke machine which is also my CD player. next to it is bluray & dvd player.
To the software side: I use kodi and in it mainly the zattoo pvr thingy in the zattoo free tier, because i rarely watch tv and the jellyfin addon for all of my media library.
Maybe i will replace the pi and offload more to the kodi, but the renderer seems to be a bit slow. Network is coming via wifi and gets distributed via cable from a bridge. this works way better then i have ever expected.
