well social media is changing a lot for the last years. Networks like schueler vz, facebook and twitter, tumbler, etc. have competition from a more personal apporch of social media. small groups, focussing own content on peers. and not the internet as a whole.
Discord provides this with personal servers that host a lot of different often small communities. telegram focuses a lot on groups, and connecting people and intrests there. Invite links and qr codes can be generated, channels can have connected discussion groups connecting interested people. A lot of people i know use instagram in a way that the own profile is private and only accepted friends can see the own generated content. While also focussing on animal videos and advertising.
